Dog Trot
Old houses in Florida included a "dog trot". It was a part of the house that the breeze could blow through to cool the house a little. Of course this was in the days long before air conditioners. Since it was a cooler place the family dogs would hang out there too which is where the name comes from.

My grandparents had a hall like room between their house and the garage. They called this -- a "breeze way". It worked the same way.This is where us kids would play because it was cool since my grandparents didn't usually run air conditioning. The eventually closed it in but didn't change the name.Patti
