Winter Petunia

I love to plant petunias every winter in my garden. Petunias can't survive the hot Florida heat of summer, but they do very well all winter as long as we don't get a freeze. I planted these pretty pink/purple ones last week and they are starting to blossom like crazy. I will post another picture when the plants have grown a little bigger.

We saw a lumberjack show at the fair. Here are two of the lumberjacks log rolling.

Cracker Country Newspaper Building

Here is another old timey building in Cracker Country. Inside this building they had several old time printing presses and showed us how newspapers were printed back 100 years ago. The print had to be set by hand. Both presses were hand cranked, no electricity needed.

Cracker Country

Here is a place you can spend a little time in "old Florida". It is so pleasant under the old oak trees surrounded by historical buildings and listening to old time music.

Old Post Office

At the state fair they have a beautiful area under huge and ancient oak trees that is set aside as Cracker Country. They have collected a little village of old and original Florida buildings. This one is the post office from around 1900. It is a cute little building that is still used as a full service post office. Even though the fair is only held for 2 weeks a year, Cracker Country is open year round for school field trips and education.

Tree Man

We saw this "tree" man at the fair. The kids said he was from Lord of the Rings. I don't know about that, but he was interesting. He didn't say anything. I wonder how fun it is to just stand and wave at people all day. It looked like it was quite warm to dress at a tree too.

Photo Friday: Baby

This week we went to the Florida State Fair. I know I just showed pictures from my trip to the county fair, but this fair is much bigger with lots of great things to see. Here is a cute baby from the fair.

More Quilts

Here is another nice quilt. I didn't try to find the name of this pattern. Does anyone know what it is?

Motorcycle Quilt

I thought this was a clever quilt. It looks like it was made from motorcycle tee shirts.

Photo Friday: Disguise

This isn't exactly a picture from Florida. It is from an ice storm in Pennsylvania last year. I thought it was cool to see a clothespin disguised as an ice cube!

Click on "home" and take a look at pictures that are a little warmer from Florida.

Butterfly Quilt

Here is a pretty quilt that I liked a lot.

Today is the Superbowl in the USA so we are all waiting to see who wins, the Seahawks or the Steelers.

Flower Garden Quilt

Here is another pretty quilt that was hanging from the ceiling at the fair. I looked it up and it is called Grandmother's Flower Garden.

US States quilt

I thought this quilt was nice for those who enjoy geography. I think there are only 40 states. What happened to the other 10? Can you identify them all?

Photo Friday: Vanity

I am interupting my trip to the county fair with a little side trip to vanity. Please forgive me if you actually drive a Ferrari!

Please click on "home" if you want to see some beautiful pictures of Florida and quilts at the county fair.

Christmas Quilt

I thought this quilt was amazing because it was made of thousands of tiny one inch squares. Can you imagine someone taking the time to cut out and put all those squares together?

There are a few other craft items in front of the quilt too.
