Photo Friday: Darkness

This spider was not at camp, but in my front yard. We were amazed at the web. If you are coming here because of Photo Friday please take a look at my home page for more pictures of Florida and be sure to watch out for spiders in the dark!

Girl Scout river

This is the view from the top of the fire tower at camp. It is the river where we love to canoe. We have never seen a gator while canoeing, but we have seen the trails they make when they walk through the tall grass.

Bud the camp dog

This is Bud the camp dog. He is not the prettiest dog, but he loves Girl Scouts and patrols the camp playing with the girls. He also chases squirrels and even was able to run up trees. He is getting older now and has given up tree climbing. One time we were camping and some of the girls washed their breakfast plates without wiping the food into the trash first. Bud showed up and ate all the scrambled eggs off the ground so the ranger didn't get upset with us for leaving food on the ground at camp. Yea! Bud!

Girl Scout fire tower

This is the 60 foot fire tower at Girl Scout camp. Most of the girls love to climb to the top and see the view. A few leaders are afraid of heights, but I enjoy going up. One time all the girls carried up as many pine cones as they could carry in their arms. For a minute or two it rained pine cones from the tower!

Girl Scouts go canoeing

Question: How many Girl Scouts does it take to put a canoe in the river?

Answer: Quite a few if they are small.

Girl Scout fire

Welcome to Girl Scout week at my blog. I am a Girl Scout leader, but was never a Girl Scout when I was young. I learned it all as an adult including how to build a campfire. We have had a lot of fun campouts with Girl Scouts. Click on my homepage and join us all week to see more pictures from camp.

Florida "Wolf"

This is Samson. He used to live across the street from us, but he looks like he would be more at home in Alaska. He looked like a big furry white wolf. He was terrified of Florida thunderstorms and could jump a 6 foot privacy fence when he was afraid. When there would be a storm I would call the owners at work warn them that Samson was afraid again. One day he chewed up my screen door during a storm and when my young son opened the door to see what was happening Samson pushed his muddy, wet self into my house. He trashed my house with mud and water and finally ended up in my bedroom closet and wouldn't come out because he was afraid of the storm. My older son was able to drag him out of the closet and put him on our back porch. He was still so afraid that he ripped up our back screen door and escaped. We are animal lovers and Samson was a sweet 160 pound dog when he wasn't going crazy during a storm. His owner was kind enough to repair our doors and help us clean up the house.

Hibiscus

I love to take pictures of flowers in Florida. Some flowers bloom all year like this hibiscus. Some flowers grow better in the winter when it isn't so hot. I plant petunias every winter. They just can't take the hot Florida sun like this hibiscus.

Expensive car

This is NOT my car. We saw it a parking lot and my sons made me drive home, get my camera, and bring them back so they could take a picture of the Lamborghini. They took 10 pictures of this car. I think it is a cute, futuristic car, but I won't be getting one any time soon. LOL Any real car lovers out there?

Blue Angels flying

These pilots and their planes are amazing. Can you imagine flying that close to another plane UPSIDE DOWN?

I sometimes have trouble backing my van out of Walmart. LOL

Photo Friday: Divine

Genesis 1:16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night.

This was a beautiful Florida sunset. The sun was much brighter and redder looking than in this picture.

If you are visiting from Photo Friday please take a look at my home page where we are enjoying an air show in photos this week.

Air Show: Blue Angels

My son went to an air show in Florida and took some great pictures. I thought I would take a week to show you are few. Here are the Blue Angels flying in formation. The Blue Angels are F18 Hornets for those of you who really know about planes. The sky that day was deep blue with no clouds. A perfect day for an air show!

Black Racer

A lot of people don't like snakes, but we do. This is one that lives in our backyard. We see him or her occasionally. They are not poisonous.

Skyline of Tampa

I like this picture of Tampa. I like the different shapes and colors of the buildings. When I was in high school I worked at the dark brown one with the two antennas. At the time it was the tallest building in Tampa.

Here is the website for a cam in Tampa if you want to see more pictures of the big city!

Sea Turtle

Here is a cute sea turtle who lives at Mote Marine. He is sort of an albino and couldn't survive in the wild. He would get sunburned! He also loves having his back scratched with a broom.

Photo Friday: Massive

The Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida is one of the largest buildings in the world.

The VAB covers 8 acres. It is 160 meters (525 ft) tall, 218 meters (716 ft) long and 158 meters (518 ft) wide.

The flag is 64 x 33.5 meters (209 x 110 ft) in size.

Size Comparisons:
Height: VAB - 160meters (525 ft) <--> Statue of Liberty - 93 meters (305 ft)
Volume: VAB - 3,665,013 cu meters (129,428,000 cub ft) <--> Pentagon 2,181,117 cu meters (77,025,000 cu ft).
VAB equals 3.75 Empire State Buildings
Its siding still has not been repaired since Hurricane Frances in 2004.

New Ladybug

I found what I thought was a ladybug "cocoon", but I wasn't sure. I took it in the house and found out it might be a ladybug pupa. The next day this little bug had emerged and was in my jar. I took her back out to the bush I found her near to eat a few aphids for me.

Red Fungus

Here is a red fungus growing on a tree at camp. I hope you enjoyed your week at Boy Scout camp with me. Tomorrow we roll up our sleeping bags and head home.

It's a Fungus?

I am not sure what this is, but it looks like some kind of fungus growing on the ground at Boy Scout camp. Does anyone recognise it? I like the way it looks in the woods.

Windsurfing

It is still Boy Scout week on my blog. Here are a few scouts learning to windsurf on a beautiful Florida lake.

Trail at Boy Scout camp

Here is a beautiful trail through the woods at camp with lots of oaks and palmettos. Very peaceful spot to walk.

Gopher Tortoise

This cute guy lives at the Boy Scout camp.

The gopher tortoise digs burrows that are 10 to 50 feet long. Tortoise burrows provide homes for other animals, including snakes, frogs, owls, and rodents. The burrows are very important during forest fires, because they give these animals a safe place to hide. In Florida, the tortoise is a Species of Special Concern. This means that there are not many left because we build houses on their sandy habitats, and many are hit by cars

Photo Friday: Order

Be sure to follow this order!

I think Boy Scouts will be my theme for the week. This is a picture from a Boy Scout camp in Florida. All Boy Scouts love archery. Keep checking back this week for more pictures from camp.

Green Lizard

We have lots of these little lizards or cameleons , but I had never seen one this green.
