Daytona Sunset: Other Direction

Here is that same sunset facing east. I thought the palm tree profiles made it look cool. The giant fan in the picture is a thrill ride that no longer was working.

Daytona Sunset

We spent the Thanksgiving weekend at Daytona Beach. Of course I took the opportunity to take a lot of great Florida pictures. Believe it or not this is a sunset over the Atlantic ocean, not a sunrise. (I took sunrise pictures too.) It was so colorful and bright that I took several. Come back all this week for more Daytona pictures.

Photo Friday: Yellow

You have to be careful about what is floating in the water when you go swimming in Florida. There are sharks, eels, and even boys on yellow rafts! LOL

If you got here from Photo Friday please visit my home page to enjoy other pictures from Florida.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today is a day to give thanks to the Lord for all our blessings. It is a beautiful day here in sunny Florida. It should warm up to almost 80 which means we can have our Thanksgiving dinner outside on the porch. That is one thing I love about Florida. Others may be enjoying snow today, but we are enjoying the sunny warm weather.

Dog Trot

Old houses in Florida included a "dog trot". It was a part of the house that the breeze could blow through to cool the house a little. Of course this was in the days long before air conditioners. Since it was a cooler place the family dogs would hang out there too which is where the name comes from.

Gamble Plantation

This is the Gamble Plantation in Ellenton. It is the last remaining plantation house in south Florida. It was built in 1847 and had about 160 slaves. They grew sugar cane there. Today it is a state historic site. I gave tours of the mansion and grounds every other Sunday afternoon for about 8 years. I enjoyed learning a lot of local history there.

Photo Friday: Imperfection

This is a picture of a little doll I once had. Her airplane is rather imperfect.

Rudy's eggs

I took a picture of a dozen of Rudy's eggs. We didn't have to buy eggs for a year!

Rudy

My daughter once raised a chicken in our backyard. Rudy is a Rhoade Island Red and lived in our backyard for a year before she moved out to a farm with other chickens. She laid over 200 eggs while we had her!

Photo Friday: Worn

This is an old Florida house that is well worn. A friend took the picture for me in north Florida. It would be wonderful if someone could restore it to its former beauty among the old oak trees.

Duck Reflection

This is a wild Muscovy duck that lives near our house. I like this picture because of the perfect reflection in the water.

Bird sanctuary

A house in our neighborhood feeds the wild birds. Sometimes there are hundreds of different kind of birds in the yard at the same time. In this picture the bigger ones are woodstorks and the smaller ones are ibis.

Model T

It is time to pack up the old Model T and head home from the Pumpkin Festival. Well, actually, this is an old car that was just arriving at the parking lot when I took its picture. I hope you had a good time enjoying the Pumpkin Festival in Florida.

Don't forget to leave a comment if you had a good time.

Photo Friday: Warmth

This was an old house that the fire department used for training fireman. They set the fire on purpose so no one got hurt. It was also pretty warm standing way back on the sidewalk on a cold rainy day.

All at the Pumpkin Festival.

Motorcycle Act

There was a high up motorcycle act at the Pumpkin Festival. At one point in the act the motorcycle lifted up and did backflips! Wow!

Ice Cream Maker

Here is another picture from the Pumpkin Festival. This antique machine from 1912 is being used to make homemade ice cream. I like to stand and watch old time engines. They have a unique sound.
