Potter

Here is me learning to make a pot on a wheel. I had always wanted to try this and got to try it at Art Day in Sarasota. I made the pot which was more like a bowl and will pick it up after it has been glazed and fired. I can't wait to see it again.

Giraffe

This guy was at the county fair too. Take a look at that tongue. Carrots are the best.

Old Van, Newer Van

Our old van was stolen on Christmas Eve for the second time. We decided it was time to upgrade to a van with better locks and an alarm too. We like it a lot.

Scarecrow

Watch out for this scarecrow! He was at our county fair and was so funny to watch. He would stand motionless and as people would walk by thinking he was just a decoration he would bend over and yell something. People would jump and scream, especially the teenagers. Then he would stand still again until someone else walked by and do it again. We stood and watched him for a few minutes. It was so funny to see people react. He was about 8 feet tall.

We thought this was a creative quilt pattern. It is more swirly looking than most of the ones I have seen. Pretty too.

Quilts

We went to the county fair last night and enjoyed looking at the quilts among other things. I always like to take pictures of the beautiful creations. I am a wanna-be quilter, but will probably never make one like the ones at the fair.

Boats in the Bay

These are boats in Sarasota Bay. We noticed that some of these boats are homes even though some of them are small. That must be interesting living on a small sailboat. At least the view from your front door is very pretty.

This is a picture from the Everglades Steeplechase in Dade City, Fl. The horses run fast and they jump too. We were lucky to get this action shot. We had never been to a horse race before and it was a lot of fun on a beautiful day.

Jacobites

We saw the Scotish Pipe and Drum Band, the Jacobites, play this weekend. They will be performing a benefit concert this month for our Girl Scout troop that is going to Scotland in June.

Photo Friday: Sister

These two pet rats were sisters. They lived a short life of two years as best friends and cage mates. They completely changed my view of rats. Before my daughter wanted pet rats I never would have thought to get a rat for a pet. After much discussion we bought Marge and Marilyn at the pet store. They were very sweet and friendly pets. Unfortunately like their ancestors who were lab rats they died from cancer. These sisters will be missed. You may think they had unusual names for rats, but they were named after a pair of sisters in our family.

Christmas is over

We bought a real Christmas tree for the first time this year. Here is our beautiful tree waiting to be taken away by the trash man. It was a very good kind of tree that never lost many needles. In fact, I think the artificial tree that we have used for many years always lost more needles than our real tree did. We enjoyed having a real tree and may do it again next year. They smell so good.

Today is also Three Kings Day that is celebrated in many countries around the world, but not that much in the USA.

Fruitcake

I don't know why people don't like fruitcake. I love it. Here is some fruitcake among all the yummy Christmas pies we had this year. Calories, calories, calories!

I really love Florida and of course that means I love the beauty of the beach. We have so many nice beaches in our state. It is hard to pick the best picture from a whole year so I will stick with this beach picture and of course a sandpiper which makes the beach even better.
